Who Are we ?
Stan Ollie and Dinah A long , long time ago , way , way back in the early 1960`s a group of people in New York , decided to found an Appreciation Society to celebrate the work of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy , they decided to make it a slightly silly organisation , in keeping with the films of Stan and Ollie , after a while people in other cities decided to found their own groups and it was decided to name the organisation "The Sons of The Desert" after the1933 film of that name , every group that was set up was to take its name from a film made by Stan and Ollie , moving forward to 1980 a gentleman by the name of Chris Coffey was working in the Tax Office in Manchester , and for" Children in Need" they decided to come to work in fancy dress , so Chris being a Fan of Stan and Ollie and belonging to"Come Clean" based in Widnes , came in Fez and sash etc , this stirred up some interest , so Chris foundered "Bacongrabbers(UK)" which was the nearest name to Tax gatherers he could find , we have gradually expanded to cover Wigan as well, and every year stage the Laurel and Harday one day convention.
