Fra Diavolo 1 In the film "Pack up your troubles" the cook in the Army Camp is played by the films Director George Marshall ,The actor hired to play the cook didn`t turn up that day , so rather than hold up shooting George Marshall said "Gimme the apron nobody can see I am not wearing a Uniform" Fra Diavolo
Hal E Roach 2.Hal Roach appears in "Pardon Us" , after the Boys are recaptured there is a scene with all the convicts marching across the yard and Hal Roach is just behind Ollie. Hal E Roach
Hal Roach ,Fred Karno, Stan Laurel 3.When filming had finished on "We Faw Down(1928)" Stan and the Director Leo McCarey found that the film was about 10mins too long , the only scenes they could cut without destroying the tempo of the film was a sequence with The Boys trying to change trousers in public , but this was one of the funniest sequences in the film , so they simply wrote a film round this sequence which was made as "Liberty" Hal Roach ,Fred Karno, Stan Laurel
4.When casting"Beau Hunks(1931)" James W Horne couldn`t find anyone who could play the Chieftain of the Riffs to his satisfaction........So he played the role himself.
Habeus Corpus 5.The House destroyed by The Boys in "Big Business(1928)" belonged to a Hal Roach Studios Employee , who was paid very well for the use of his house , and got it redecorated for nothing! , Hal Roach used to relate the story that the film crew went to the wrong house , and destroyed the house of a total stranger , but Stan claimed that the employee was actually on the shoot with them , so you can choose your own version. Habeus Corpus
Laughing 6.The "Iron Girders" that The Boys climbed all over in "Liberty(1928)" were actually made of wood , and Thomas Benton Roberts , a Carpenter on the film tells a story that one day Stan became a litttle nervous at being up so high , so Ollie in an effort to calm him , jumped onto the safety platform below to prove how safe it was , He went straight through it and into the safety net below! Laughing
Patricia Ellis 7. The ending of "One Good Turn(1931)" where the "Stan" character gets the better of the "Ollie" Character was written in response to Stans daughter being frightened of her "Uncle Ollie" everytime he came to visit , as all she saw on screen was this man beating up her Father , so Stan wrote this to show his character could take care of himself when needed, Patricia Ellis
Rosina Lawrence 8.Some reviews say that "Big Business(1928)", where Stan and Ollie try to sell Xmas Trees was filmed during a California Summer, but it was in fact filmed during Xmas week 1928 , just before the Studio shut down for the installation of sound equipment Rosina Lawrence
Thelma Todd 9."Another Fine Mess(1930)" was a remaking of "Duck Soup(1927)" which in turn was a reworking of "Home From the Honeymoon(1908)" a theatrical sketch written by A J Jefferson Stan`s Dad. Thelma Todd
Two Tars 10.I can`t confirm that this story is true , but if it isn`t ,it should be, When the film "Hog Wild(1930)" was being made , none of the householders around the area was particularly keen on having a film crew climbing all over the roof of their houses , so a dummy house was constructed , after filming was completed , the Studio crew was dismantling the house when a gentleman from the Census office came to survey the street , he was told that the owners were away and could he come back tomorrow , this he did and of course when he got there , the house had gone!
